It's a beautiful peaceful day in 1985 (all futuristic stories have to be in exact decade-increments). But children play with a rose bush that tells the children to prepare for an invasion from another planet, which will occur at Zero Hour.

This actually seems like an earlier version than the one I've always heard. The one I know seems to progress more naturally.
Do you know anything about another version of this?

Suspense did a version that the narrator claims is a repeat performance. That one aired April, 1955.
The Suspense version seemed to take place in "the present" and spends more time with the mother.
It also scared the pants off me. Of course, that may be due to it being well calculated to keep me in... suspsense!
